Exhibition:
"WorkSpace: Barbara Ess"
Date
February 12 - March 27 1985
Description

"In WorkSpace is a sound/image installation by Barbara Ess, selected by Adjunct Curator Brian Wallis. This project in stereo constitutes both a literal and metaphorical interpretation of the Doppler Effect. This scientific principle distinguishes the symmetrical rise and fall in pitch as sound approaches and moves away from an observer. In this installation, sound "moves" across the space, between the poles established by two haunting photographs (The Beast's Feet and Limbo), creating a disturbing sense of passage from one state of existence to another."
