SkowheganTALKS, a lecture series organized by the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture, features conversations between some of the most influential visual artists working today. The third talk of the second season of the series includes a conversation between artists Patty Chang and Jeannie Oleson. Patty Chang’s performance, video, and photographic works explore gender, sexuality, language, and empathy. Chang has shown her work at many venues, includingMary Boone Gallery, NY; Arratia Beer Gallery, Berlin; Hammer Museum, LA; New Museum, NY; Guggenheim Museum, NY; SITE Santa Fe; New Directors/New Film Festival at MoMA, NY to name a few. In 2008 she was nominated for the Hugo Boss Prize and in 2009 was named the Guna S. Mundheim Fellow of Visual Arts at the American Academy in Berlin. In 2003, she served as resident faculty at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine. Jeanine Oleson is an artist whose practice incorporates interdisciplinary uses of performance, film/video, installation, and photographic work, often collaboratively. She attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Rutgers University and attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Oleson has exhibited at venues including X-Initiative, NY; Grand Arts, Kansas City; Socrates Sculpture Park, Queens, NY; L.A.C.E., LA; Monya Rowe Gallery, NY; Samson Projects, Boston; Participant, Inc., NY; PS 1, Queens, NY; Pumphouse Gallery, London; and Art in General, NY. In 2000, Oleson attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
