Michael Lebron: An Angel of God
November 23 1985 – January 19 1986
From November 23, 1985 to January 19, 1986,  as part of the On View program, the New Museum presented an installation in the Mercer Street window by Michael Lebron. For his installation work, An Angel of God, Michael Lebron borrowed from the imagery of fundraising advertisements for aid campaigns, and journalistic photos of disaster or famine, whose representation of poverty had often centered on children. His work confronted concepts central to understanding these images and their use — advertising, religion, and foreign aid — and suggested that these concerns, in their broad application, had more relevance to the preconditions and perpetuation of poverty in Latin America than other reasons more frequently cited, such as poor economic planning, inadequate technology, or natural disasters.
