Exhibition:
"William Copley: The Tomb of the Unknown Whore"
Date
April 12 - May 28 1986
Description
"CPLY (William Copley) will mount a major installation, The Tomb of the Unknown Whore, in the WorkSpace Gallery as part of The New Museum's "On View" program. This installation, CPLY's first in the United States, will be presented from April 12- June 8, 1986. An extremely ambitious project, The Tomb will take over the entire room, transforming the space into a CPLY-esque bordello, filled with his innovative, erotic imagery. In this installation, CPLY moves beyond the traditional viewer-painting relationship by creating an experience which completely engages the senses. By being suddenly immersed in a bordello, the viewer is cast into the absolute sensuality of CPLY's world, where a wide spectrum of questions and issues are raised."1
