Ann Messner: Look-Out for Broadway
November 23 1985 – January 19 1986
From November 23, 1985 to January 19, 1986 outside the museum, attached to a lamppost on Broadway, the New Museum presented a public sculpture made from welded steel called Look-Out for Broadway. This witty, abstract work by Ann Messner was presented as part of the On View program. The On View program was envisioned as a forum for emerging artists to present small thematic exhibitions and video works for approximately three weeks at a time. This flexible format enabled curators to respond to the constantly changing focus of contemporary art, and to present new works to the public directly from artists’ studios.
