First Saturdays for Families: Wave Your Flag

April 1 2017

Join us for a family workshop offered in conjunction with the exhibition “Raymond Pettibon: A Pen of All Work,” on view at the New Museum through April 9, 2017. For over thirty years, Raymond Pettibon has been chronicling the history, mythology, and culture of America with a prodigious and distinctive voice. Through his drawings’ signature interplay between image and text, he moves between historical reflection, emotional longing, poetic wit, and strident critique.

Inspired by the logo Pettibon created for the American punk rock band Black Flag (active beginning in the late 1970s) and the expressive voices that emerge in the artist’s work, families will invent and decorate their own flags that proudly declare their beliefs and values.

New Museum First Saturdays for Families are free of charge. This program is designed and recommended for families with children aged between four and twelve years, and includes free New Museum admission for up to two adults per family. Children under eighteen are always admitted free. No preregistration is required. Space is limited, and tickets are given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Your entire party must be present; tickets will not be given to partial parties.
