Free Tour for Educators

December 12 2012 at 17:00

Educators are invited to explore “Come Closer: Art Around the Bowery 1969–1989,” an exhibition curated by Education Associate Ethan Swan that takes the Bowery as subject, site, and center for creative ingenuity in the 1970s and 1980s. Drawing upon the New Museum’s Bowery Artist Tribute archive and the online archive of Marc H. Miller,, this exhibition features original artwork, ephemera, and performance documentation by twenty artists who lived and worked on or near the Bowery in New York.

This tour is offered through G:Class, the New Museum’s interdisciplinary art education program. G:Class offers professional development seminars led by artists, curators, and education professionals to guide teachers in methods that activate contemporary art in the classroom. The seminars expose teachers to contemporary art history and offer tools to encourage critical thinking, focusing on the integration of new art and new ideas with school curricula.
