John Ahearn
January 12 – February 11 1980
For his window installation, John Ahearn made plaster life-casts by taking molds of the heads of his audience/volunteers, casting them in plaster and then carving and painting them to emphasize outrageous and poignant expressions and poses. His methods, subjects, and manipulations stressed an immediacy and directness based in sociology as well as art. The casts were also displayed at Fashion Moda, a gallery located in the South Bronx, where his subjects were area residents.
