My name is Shani Peters. I’m an artist and educator and I am one half of the Black School. I’m from Lansing, MI.
Below the posters you see are black school process deck which is intended as a tool for designing and inspiring creative action. There are six categories and we ask that you also use our community survey as you work through these categories, you select at least one card from each category, you mark it on your survey and by the end you are able to sketch out a plan for a creative action that will serve some need in your community. We use these in our own workshops, we hope teachers will use them in classroom settings when we aren’t there and we hope visitors in this exhibition can design creative actions that will actually happen using these tools.
This space is designed to encourage people to think through the process deck and their ideas for actions in their community in the best way possible. So we’re trying to create an atmosphere: the music that you hear, the cushion you sit on, the plants, there’s dry lavender under the table. So I hope you take your time and really have a full experience in this room.
