Remo Campopiano: Plato's Cave
September 21 – November 10 1985
As part of the larger exhibition “Five from Minnesota,” Remo Campopiano’s Broadway window installation, entitled Plato’s Cave, was divided into two parts: in the top part of the window The Preamble of the U.S. Constitution was written in neon lights, and in the bottom half, 5,000 red ants scurried in their usual businesslike manner through a desolate landscape. Along the way there were situated various signs denoting amendments to the Constitution that functioned as historic markers or the remains of a long-lost civilization, or rather, of long-lost ideals.
